Alfalfa

Alfalfa Grades

Premium is our best horse hay. It is 3rd through 7th cutting. It is leafy with fine stems. Available all year.

Quality is essentially the same as Premium Alfalfa. The quality and price is discounted because when it was baled the conditions were less than optimal. Available all year.

Mid-Grade is a great value. It is discounted because it may have color variations, it might have been baled a little dry, and it could have been on the bottom of the stack or any number of reasons. Nutritionally, it is good hay. Available most times.

Cow Hay is the least expensive alfalfa we offer. It is not recommended nor guaranteed for horses. It may have been rained on, so there could be mold, or there may be an excessive amount of dirt or mud in the bale. Available most times.

Mix

We have high quality Mixed Alfalfa Grass Hay from various cuttings. Grasses provide a softer more palatable hay bale, but since it is softer it will not "flake" like alfalfa does. Mix is a good alternative to alfalfa because it does not have the "heat" that alfalfa does. We also store our mixed hay under barn as well so it is available long after the growing season is over.

Paca Verde is a blended Alfalfa-Rye Grass mix. Several years ago we developed Paca Verde as a winter grass mix. It has turned out to be some of the best horse feed we have ever seen. It is extremely popular with our customers and we often sell out. Available May 1 through about January.

Summer Mix is a mix of summer grasses and alfalfa. These grasses could include Bermuda, native water grasses, or rye. Available mid summer through about March.

Grass

We typically carry three types of grass hay. If your horse has had laminitis, or cannot tolerate alfalfa for various reasons, this is the hay for your animal.

Rye Grass is grown in the winter, is cut in the spring, so is the earliest grass we can offer. It is soft, sweet and horses seem to love it. Available early May.

Bermuda is common in Arizona and grows in the summer. It stores well, and is available most times.

Teff is an ancient Ethiopian grass that does well in AZ. It is a good alternative to horses that cannot have our other grasses. It is very popular and availability is limited.

Straw is clean wheat straw. It is great for bedding.
